AND ADVICE |

Can
laser or gel treatment replace a drill? |
| |
In 1999 a Swedish company
announced a revolution in dental treatment with the use of gel.
The method was supposed to be fast, cheap and pain-free. Introduction
of the preparation proceded an enthusiastic advertising campaign.
However, it turned to be completely untrue - the method is not fast,
cheap, or revolutionary. The drills are still doing fine.
A similar thing is with the laser, which is usually just a method
supporting the treatment and so far does not replace the dental
turbine and the microengine.

The wisdom
teeth - to extract or not to extract? |
| |
Much more frequently than
other teeth, the third molars are subject to infections and decay,
and even if these teeth have not erupted yet, they can often be the
cause of cysts. |
| |
It is almost
certain a vast majority of erupted wisdom teeth that are left intact
will cause a problem (especially in the jaw.) Complications are usually
sudden and emerge in the least advantageous moment. Therefore it is
recommended to remove such teeth while they do not hurt yet. Currently
specialists recommend removing the third molars between the age of
14 and 22. |

My
tooth is sensitive to pain - does it mean it has a "cavity"
in it? |
| |
A short intensive
pain after coming into contact with a cold food is usually not a sign
of decay, but the so-called dentin hypersensitivity. This discomfort
is becoming more and more widespread. The hypersensitive area is most
frequently located in the alveolar space called the neck of a tooth.
One can reduce the pain by using appropriate remedies, such as mouth
washes or special toothpastes. |
| 4. |
To
whiten or not to whiten? |
| |
Yes - if we
feel such need. The admissible methods and preparations are completely
safe. They do not damage the structure of the enamel or the dentin.
It has been proved that a 6-hour-long contract of the tooth with the
whitening preparation is comparable with a 3 minute contact with Coke. |
| 5. |
Is
it possible to straighten the teeth as an adult? |
| |
Correction of
malocclusions can be done at every age, also with adults. Same as
in case of younger patients, it is necessary to thoroughly analyze
the defect, to determine the proper treatment program and to select
the appropriate device. |

How
often should the tartar be removed? |
| |
Usually the
hygiene treatment is carried out once every 6 moths. However, the
treatment not only consists in removal of the tartar (using the ultrasound),
but also removal of a dental plaque (using a special device - the
sand-blaster) and fluoridation. Only these three actions, performed
simultaneously, guarantee a proper protection of teeth and the white
smile effect. Sometimes, there are indications for a more frequent
hygiene treatment (every 3 months), but this decision is made by the
doctor. |
